About FixItRight UK

Who we are, what drives us, and why every word on this site comes from genuine renovation experience.

Where This Started

FixItRight UK grew out of a frustration shared by everyone who's tried to research a home improvement project online: most of what you find is either written by people who've never held a drill, or by websites that exist to funnel clicks toward affiliate product links. The advice looks authoritative. When you follow it on a real project, it often isn't.

The site was founded in 2018 by Daniel Marsh and Sarah Lindqvist, who between them have worked on residential renovation projects across the UK Midlands and South East for over 15 years. Daniel's background is in structural and energy-efficiency retrofitting — cavity fill, solid wall insulation, floor build-ups. Sarah worked as a professional decorator before moving into interior project management. The site was built to document what they'd actually done on real projects, and what they'd learned from when things went wrong.

What We Write About

The site covers tools, materials and techniques for residential home renovation in the UK. That means content is specifically calibrated to UK housing stock — the prevalence of Victorian and Edwardian solid wall construction, the specific requirements of UK Building Regulations, the product ranges available from UK suppliers, and the climate conditions that affect material choices differently here than in mainland Europe or North America.

Our Editorial Standards

No article on this site is sponsored, paid for, or placed by a manufacturer or retailer. If a product is recommended, it's because it was used and found to work — not because someone paid for the mention. We don't carry affiliate links that change which products appear at the top of a comparison.

All articles are referenced against current UK sources: Building Regulations Approved Documents, HSE guidance, and where relevant, standards from bodies including the Contract Flooring Association and CIGA. Articles are updated at least annually; the date at the foot of each piece reflects when the content was last reviewed against current regulations and market conditions.
